About the position

The Anatomic Pathology Lab Shift Supervisor at Emory Healthcare is responsible for overseeing the Advanced Diagnostics section of Anatomic Pathology, which includes various specialized laboratory tests and procedures. This role involves supervising staff, managing performance, ensuring quality control, and developing new procedures to enhance laboratory services. The supervisor will also play a key role in training and orienting employees, as well as maintaining inventory and equipment operations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Advanced Diagnostics section of Anatomic Pathology, including Immunohistochemistry, Electron Microscopy, and Immunofluorescence.
  • Perform various laboratory tests and procedures in a research or clinical laboratory setting.
  • Manage employee performance, providing ongoing feedback and conducting evaluations.
  • Orient and train employees, verifying competency and identifying development opportunities.
  • Serve as a key operator for the implementation of new equipment and procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure adequate inventory supply and ordering as assigned.
  • Evaluate quality control, specimens, and test results, documenting corrective actions as necessary.
  • Research and assist in the development of new procedures, compiling and evaluating data, and performing statistical analyses.
  • Review and investigate reports to ensure timely completion of scheduled tests and provide data for quality improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in Immunohistochemistry.
  • ASCP certification as either a Histotechnologist (HTL) or Histotechnician (HT).
  • Three years of medical technology experience required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with quality control processes in laboratory environments.
