About the position

The position of Pathologists' Assistant involves working under the supervision of a pathologist to perform or assist in various tasks related to the handling and processing of surgical specimens. This role is critical in ensuring the accuracy and quality of pathology services, with responsibilities that include accessioning, dissection, and histologic sampling. The position is full-time, with a focus on mid/evening shifts, and offers competitive compensation along with potential relocation or sign-on bonuses.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform or assist in accessioning, dissection, description, and histologic sampling of surgical specimens.
  • Participate in accessioning and labeling specimens, storing and disposing of specimens, and maintaining reagents and equipment.
  • Perform frozen sections and other intraoperative consultations within established protocols and procedural parameters.
  • Ensure compliance with lab safety and infection prevention standards.
  • Maintain knowledge of gross room pathology procedures, protocols, and techniques.
  • Adhere to quality standards and requirements for pathology specimen photographs.

Requirements

  • Masters degree from a NAACLS accredited Pathologists' Assistant program preferred.
  • PA(ASCP) certification preferred.
  • 0 years of experience if scheduled to take the ASCP exam within 6 months.
  • Ability to calibrate, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Dexterity and good eye-hand coordination for specimen collection and preparation.
  • Legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with pathology specimen handling and processing.
