About the position

The Anchor / Multi-Skilled Journalist at TEGNA Inc. is responsible for anchoring newscasts and reporting on breaking news, while also creating compelling stories for various platforms. This role requires strong storytelling abilities, leadership, and a commitment to local news, with a focus on engaging the community and collaborating with the news team to deliver high-quality content.

Responsibilities

• Anchor newscasts and cut-ins, along with any breaking news either on-air or on digital platforms.
• Generate viewer and brand focused story/show ideas and content.
• Deliver stories on-air/digital platforms in an engaging, informative, and conversational manner.
• Utilize social media for news gathering/disseminating and community engagement.
• Produce short-and-long form community content/specials for multiple platforms.
• Collaborate with management, producers, and reporters to create an engaging newscast, writing and copy editing to improve all content daily.
• Represent ABC24 Memphis at community events.
• Perform other tasks as required by management.
• Take a leadership role in newscast production with strong news judgment.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as a reporter in small and medium markets.
• At least 2 years of anchoring experience.
• Strong on-camera delivery with the ability to ad-lib.
• Excellent, creative presentation and writing skills.
• Ability to report in a broad range of styles with good on-air/live presentation skills.
• Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines.
• Strong social media presence.
• Prior experience as a people leader with strong leadership qualities and ability to motivate and engage team members on multiple projects.
• Passion for being involved in the community and ability to build new connections.
• Innovative mindset that generates creative solutions on projects.
