About the position

Verily is a subsidiary of Alphabet that is using a data-driven approach to change the way people manage their health and the way healthcare is delivered. We are focused on generating and activating data from a variety of sources, including clinical, social, behavioral and the real world, to arrive at the best solutions for a person based on a comprehensive view of the evidence. Our unique expertise and capabilities in technology, data science and healthcare enable the entire healthcare ecosystem to drive better health outcomes. We are looking for an Android Engineer to join Verily's mobile apps team. Verily's core strategy to advance precision health is by bridging the gap between research and care. Our team is responsible for Verily's flagship consumer product, delivering warm, personalized experiences for users.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, launch and maintain critical user-facing features in an Android app that is core to Verily's business, with opportunities for end-to-end and cross-platform feature development.
  • Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and technical discussions.
  • Collaborate extensively across engineering teams (mobile, BE, FE) and with cross-functional teams (e.g. UX, PM, Test, QE) to deliver high quality, regulated, and impactful software.
  • Align with iOS engineers to ensure cross-platform consistency, and find opportunities to improve mobile developer productivity.
  • Work closely with Product, UX and Quality on defining requirements, designing mocks, and implementing regulatory protocols. Help all functions understand engineering tradeoffs to ensure smooth implementation across the system.

Requirements

  • Strong CS fundamentals with BS Computer Science degree OR equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 2+ years of experience in developing Android mobile applications in an industry setting (can include internships).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Native app development experience in Kotlin.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of modern Android frameworks and architecture (e.g. Jetpack Compose).
  • Passionate about UX with a high empathy for users.
  • Familiarity with automated testing.
  • Some experience with full-stack development, including backend services and web frontends.
