About the position
The Animal Care/Kennel Technician position involves monitoring and assessing the health status of animals in a kennel environment. The role requires attention to detail and physical stamina, as it combines sanitation duties with animal care responsibilities. The technician will report health concerns, administer medications, and provide emotional support to the animals through play and exercise. This position is crucial for ensuring the well-being of the animals and facilitating adoption processes.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess the health status of each animal in the work area.
- Report any concerns regarding the physical or mental health status of any animal to the Med Room Technician.
- Administer medications as instructed.
- Assist med room staff as needed.
- Monitor emotional and psychological health of the animals by providing enrichment, playtime, and exercise.
- Clean and sanitize inside and outside kennels, outdoor runs, quarantine and isolation units, and common areas.
- Facilitate adoption meet-and-greets by bringing out adoptable dogs and monitoring interactions with potential adopters' dogs.
- Follow specific protocols regarding disease cross-contamination.
- Assist with new animal intakes, including initial health assessments.
- Fill out daily assessments with specific notes on each animal regarding physical and emotional health observations.
- Mentor and assist in training of new staff members.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum one year of animal care experience.
- Valid Driver's License.
