About the position

As an Operations Specialist in Animal Care at Petco, you will be responsible for ensuring proper care and husbandry for all companion animals and aquatic life in the Pet Care Center (PCC). This role involves being the primary resource for animal care, supporting the PCC's budgeted sales and shrink goals, and collaborating with the sales team to meet the needs of guests and their pets. A passion for animal welfare and effective teamwork is essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that all companion animals and aquatic life in the PCC are receiving appropriate care.
• Complete companion animal incident reports and hourly animal health checks as required.
• Process register transactions to create a great experience for each guest.
• Support guest interactions and be proficient within the selling model.
• Ensure merchandise is stocked, priced, and displayed effectively.
• Complete training programs to maintain expertise in animal care and educate other PCC partners.
• Promote a positive culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration.
• Evaluate guest inquiries and refer to the Leader on Duty as needed.
• Act as the primary resource for guests regarding animal education and care.
• Order companion animals and aquatic life, supplies, and merchandise efficiently.
• Analyze inventory management data and recommend improvements.
• Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain the professional image of the animal habitats.
• Ensure proper handling and documentation for relinquished and adoption animals.
• Verify that animal-related maintenance tasks are completed as outlined.
• Participate in physical inventory counts for animal and aquatic life.
• Adhere to and promote established safety and loss prevention procedures.

Requirements

• Minimum of one year of experience working with and/or caring for companion animals and aquatic life.
• High level of knowledge of companion animals and aquatic life.
• Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to demonstrate proficiency in mathematics and basic accounting relationships.
• Completion and maintenance of the Petco Animal Care Certification program is required.
• High school diploma or GED.
