About the position

The Animal Care Specialist at Petco is responsible for ensuring the proper care and husbandry of all companion animals and aquatic life within the Pet Care Center (PCC). This role focuses on maintaining animal welfare, supporting sales goals, and collaborating with the sales team to enhance guest experiences. The position requires a passion for animal care and a commitment to teamwork and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Ensure proper care and husbandry for all companion animals and aquatic life in the PCC.
• Complete maintenance and health checks for animals as required.
• Process register transactions to enhance guest experience.
• Support guest interactions and promote the selling model.
• Ensure merchandise is stocked, priced, and displayed effectively.
• Complete training programs to maintain expertise in animal care and educate other team members.
• Promote a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration.
• Adhere to operational guidelines and policies.
• Evaluate guest inquiries and refer to the Leader on Duty as needed.
• Act as a primary resource for guests regarding animal education and care.
• Order companion animals, aquatic life, supplies, and merchandise efficiently.
• Analyze inventory management data and recommend improvements.
• Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain a professional image.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of experience in animal care or a related field.
• Strong interest in animal welfare and knowledge of companion animal and aquatic care.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in retail or customer service environments.
• Knowledge of inventory management practices.
