About the position
The Animal Care Technician position involves providing care for dairy cattle in a research setting, including milking, feeding, and monitoring the health of the animals. The role requires a commitment to animal welfare and the ability to work independently while following established protocols. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to dairy research projects that aim to improve the dairy industry and support farmers globally.
Responsibilities
- Milking cows using milking machines or by hand.
- Moving cattle to the parlor and herding livestock to pastures for grazing.
- Feeding and watering livestock, monitoring food and water supplies.
- Cleaning stalls, pens, and equipment using disinfectant solutions and other tools.
- Examining animals for signs of illness, injury, or disease.
- Providing medical treatment, including administering medications and vaccinations.
- Driving trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals.
- Mixing feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions.
Requirements
- Ability and desire to work and learn in a research setting.
- Desire to provide and care for animals in a research setting.
- Desire to learn modern collection, diagnosis, recording, and treatment protocols.
- Desire to train on and regularly operate skid steers and other utility vehicles.
- Ability to organize and work independently following training.
- Basic computer entry skills.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
