Animal Care Technician

About the position

The Animal Care Technician is responsible for the daily care, feeding, and enrichment of animals at the Rochester Animal Services Shelter. This role includes assisting with customer service and ensuring the health and safety of the animals. The position requires direct supervision from higher-level Animal Services personnel and involves various tasks related to animal care and shelter maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and disinfects kennels, cages, runs, cat room, dishes, and floors in the kennel area.
• Feeds animals daily, performs routine water checks, and ensures each cage has required identification documentation.
• Examines animals for health and safety issues and notifies a supervisor.
• Assists with euthanization of animals, as needed.
• Performs customer service activities including adoption counseling and answering questions.
• Monitors the animal visitation room.
• Launders animal supplies and bedding.
• Administers medications and vaccines.
• Performs census of impounded animals when instructed.
• Completes simple forms both paper and electronic.
• Works within records management system.
• Attends training.
• Disposes of garbage daily.
• Observes all safety rules and regulations.
• Maintains a good relationship with other personnel and customers.
• Maintains the interior and exterior of the facility for safety as requested by supervisory personnel.
• Performs shelter enrichment activities including participating in canine playgroup sessions.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Three months of full-time experience working at an animal shelter, animal hospital, animal boarding facility, or similar environment involving the care and handling of animals.

Nice-to-haves
