About the position

The Animal Care Technician role involves providing professional husbandry and care for various laboratory animals, including rodents, rabbits, sheep, and poultry. The technician will perform health checks, maintain animal housing, and utilize specialized equipment while ensuring the welfare of the animals. This position requires working with animals that may be exposed to biological, chemical, and radiation hazards, and may involve euthanasia of rodents as part of the care process.

Responsibilities

• Perform primary housing maintenance for laboratory animals.
• Monitor animal health and welfare regularly.
• Conduct cage washing and preparations for animal housing.
• Provide breeding services as needed.
• Maintain accurate record keeping and quality assurance.
• Complete other duties as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Six months of relevant large or small animal care experience.
• Ability to have indirect and direct physical contact with multiple species of animals.
• Ability to move about for long periods, perform repetitive movements, and operate equipment, tools, or controls.
• Ability to move items weighing up to 40 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

• Any certifications (LAT, ALAT, LATG, etc.).
