About the position

The Animal Health Manager at Helen Woodward Animal Center is responsible for overseeing the Adoptions Medical department, ensuring quality care and operational goals are met. This role involves managing medical staff, collaborating with various directors, and directly influencing the health and well-being of animals in the center's care. The position is ideal for a Registered Vet Technician with leadership experience in a veterinary environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily management direction and establish goals for the Adoptions medical staff.
• Schedule shifts for surgery, intake, and foster check-ups.
• Maintain departmental budget and approve staff timesheets.
• Ensure timely documentation and database management.
• Assist in medical procedures including surgery, dental prophylaxis, and anesthesia.
• Organize and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
• Promote teamwork and active communication among staff.
• Ensure quality animal care and maintain accurate records.

Requirements

• Current California RVT license is required.
• 2+ years of experience managing staff in a veterinary environment.
• RVT-level knowledge in radiography, surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, pharmacology, and laboratory medicine for small animals.
• Ability to control strong and unruly dogs and handle fractious cats.
• Proven time management skills and ability to balance multiple tasks.
• Experience in handling personnel concerns with urgency and professionalism.
