About the position

The Animal Keeper I position at Dallas Animal Services involves providing safe and humane care for animals in the city's shelters and stables. The role includes feeding, cleaning, and monitoring the health of the animals, as well as assisting with various tasks related to animal control and public inquiries regarding adoptions.

Responsibilities

• Feeds, waters, exercises, and grooms animals to ensure good health and appearance.
• Cleans and repairs kennels, stalls, or cages to maintain sanitary and safety conditions.
• Monitors and observes animals to detect illnesses and injuries, ensuring proper care is provided.
• Assists animal control officers with unloading animals and transporting euthanized animals to the landfill.
• Assists senior animal control officers and veterinarians during examinations and euthanasia procedures.
• Delivers animals to veterinary clinics for sterilization, evaluation, or minor treatment.
• Transports animals to various locations for adoptions and events.
• Completes paperwork and handles public inquiries regarding animal adoptions and lost animals.
• Collects fees and writes receipts for animal registration and adoption.
• Performs any other assigned duties as needed.

Requirements

• Three months of paid animal feeding/animal care experience or three months of volunteer experience at an animal shelter.
• No felony drug offenses within the last 10 years.
• No animal cruelty convictions.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
