Animal Research Technician

About the position

Under the direction of the Coordinator, Veterinary Technical Services, Comparative Medicine, this position will perform and provide assistance in implementing CM's Animal Health Surveillance Program. These duties will include monitoring daily animal health surveillance, and monitoring of compliance with USDA, IACUC, and AAALAC policies and regulations. This position will also be required to perform first line basic care, feeding, and husbandry of all species of animals used in research at UNMC as required. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

• Monitor daily animal health surveillance.
• Ensure compliance with USDA, IACUC, and AAALAC policies and regulations.
• Perform first line basic care, feeding, and husbandry of all species of animals used in research.

Requirements

• High School education or equivalent.
• 3 years of experience in a veterinary surgery clinic and/or laboratory animal type setting.
• Familiarity with current Federal Laws and regulations regarding animal care and use, NIH guidelines, and AAALAC accreditation requirements.
• Ability to follow through on multiple projects and work assignments simultaneously.
• Ability to interact with individuals of great diversity in culture and education.
• Highly organized and detail oriented.
• Exhibit independent judgement in problem resolution and decision making with minimal supervision.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences.
• Experience with a variety of species in an AAALAC Accredited Animal Care and Use Program or USDA licensed facility.
• Certification as AALAS Laboratory Animal Technician (RLAT).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Access, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook.
