About the position

The Animal Response Team Services Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and administering a major division of the Police Division focused on animal control services in the City of Hampton. This role involves ensuring compliance with city ordinances and state laws, developing effective programs for animal control, and overseeing various initiatives related to animal welfare and public safety.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, implement, and administer animal control services.
  • Ensure compliance with city ordinances and state laws related to animal control.
  • Develop comprehensive programs for effective delivery of animal control services.
  • Direct a variety of animal control activities and initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with city departments and the public.
  • Work independently with a high degree of responsibility and initiative.
  • Provide credible testimony in court and other legal situations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in animal control management, law enforcement management, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of five years of full-time equivalent work experience in animal control laws and ordinances.
  • At least three years of supervisory and administrative experience.
  • Experience in developing administrative guidelines and implementing programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Advanced animal control training such as Virginia Animal Control Association (VACA) Basic Animal Control Academy.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
