About the position

The City of Huntsville's Animal Services Department is actively seeking qualified applicants for the position of Animal Services Administrative Aide. This role is integral to the department, which provides essential sheltering, enforcement, and prevention services for the city and the surrounding unincorporated areas of Madison County. The department is committed to ensuring the welfare of lost and homeless pets, aiming for a live outcome rate of at least 90% for companion animals entering the shelter each year. As an Administrative Aide, you will be responsible for executing various administrative tasks that support the operations of the Animal Services Department. This position requires a high degree of independent judgment and the ability to work with confidential information. You will serve as a liaison between internal departments and external organizations, assisting the public with animal adoptions, the Low Income Spay/Neuter Program, pet licenses, and other animal-related inquiries. Additionally, you may represent the Department Head in meetings and hearings, and participate in various committees and services related to animal welfare. Regular and prompt attendance is essential, along with the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced administrative support for the Animal Services Department.
  • Assist the public with animal adoptions, Low Income Spay/Neuter Program, pet licenses, and general animal-related issues.
  • Serve as a liaison with internal and external departments and organizations.
  • Represent the Department Head in hearings and meetings as needed.
  • Participate as a department representative on various committees and services.
  • Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance in accordance with departmental policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Coursework in typing and experience in secretarial and administrative assistance.
  • Proficiency in word processing and transcribing minutes from recordings.
  • Knowledge of general municipal agency operations and organizations.
  • Valid Driver License.
