Alaska Northstar Resources (ANR) is currently seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) to join our industry-leading cloud computing team. This is a fully remote role, and the DBA will be responsible for administrating the organization's database using a database management system to effectively organize and store data. The DBA will ascertain user requirements, create computer databases, and test and coordinate changes to ensure optimal performance of the database. This role requires interaction with both development and end-user personnel to determine application data access requirements, transaction rates, volume analysis, and other pertinent data necessary for the development and maintenance of integrated databases. The DBA will ensure the performance of the database by coordinating physical changes to computer databases, coding, testing, and implementing physical databases while applying their knowledge of database management systems. They will design logical and physical databases or review descriptions of changes to database design to understand how these changes affect the physical database, including how data is stored in terms of physical characteristics such as location, amount of space, and access method. The DBA will establish physical database parameters, code database descriptions, and specify identifiers of the database to the database management system, or direct others in coding database descriptions. In addition, the DBA will calculate optimum values for database parameters, specify user access levels for each segment of data items, and determine which users can access databases and what data can be accessed. They will also test and correct errors, refine changes to the database, enter codes to create production databases, and select and enter codes of utility programs to monitor database performance. The DBA will direct programmers and analysts to make changes to the database management system, review and correct programs, and answer user questions. They will confer with co-workers to determine the impact of database changes on other systems and assess the costs associated with making changes to the database. Performance tuning will also be a key responsibility, as the DBA modifies database programs to increase processing performance.
