About the position

The Antibiotic Stewardship Pharmacist (ASP) at Emerson Hospital is responsible for ensuring the appropriate use of antibiotics within the hospital setting. This role involves providing individualized treatment recommendations based on national guidelines, leading clinical initiatives, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to enhance patient care. The ASP will monitor antimicrobial use for effectiveness and cost-efficiency, while also designing and implementing strategies for optimal stewardship under the guidance of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee.

Responsibilities

  • Promote appropriate antibiotic use throughout the hospital.
  • Provide individualized antimicrobial treatment recommendations for all patient populations.
  • Design and implement clinical initiatives for optimal stewardship.
  • Monitor the use of antimicrobials to ensure appropriate and cost-effective use.
  • Collaborate with the Infection Disease Physician, Infection Prevention Nurse, and Pharmacy Leadership Team.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance patient care through effective antimicrobial use.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in Massachusetts or by reciprocal licensure.
  • At least 5 years of work experience or residency training preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Experience in budget planning and fiscal control.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees.
  • Program management and administrative skills.
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy management principles and procedures.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Conflict resolution and mediation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Emerson Hospital administrative policies and procedures.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information to draw conclusions.
  • Skills in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures.
