About the position

In addition to managing athletic events and budgets, the Athletic Director will oversee the hiring and professional development of coaching staff, ensuring compliance with IHSAA regulations and maintaining a positive public image for the athletic program. The role also includes responsibilities for student athlete management, including maintaining medical records, monitoring academic progress, and facilitating leadership councils. The Athletic Director will work closely with school administrators, coaches, and community members to foster a supportive and engaging environment for student athletes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of interscholastic sports policies and procedures.
  • Schedule and supervise athletic events according to district policies.
  • Manage balanced and competitive schedules for each sport.
  • Obtain and manage contracts for athletic events.
  • Cancel and reschedule events as necessary due to weather or other factors.
  • Plan and manage supplemental events such as Senior Nights.
  • Create and manage individual athlete schedules and transportation schedules.
  • Manage officials for home events and arrange security for events.
  • Coordinate awards programs and pep sessions.
  • Attend major away events including state tournaments and varsity conference play.
  • Supervise athletic trainer and secretary schedules.
  • Manage rosters and create event programs.
  • Conduct annual reviews and professional development plans for coaching staff.
  • Manage IHSAA required coach certifications and CPR/first aid training.
  • Purchase uniforms and oversee equipment and supply purchases.
  • Organize annual fundraisers and seek corporate sponsorships.
  • Manage concession stand operations and inventory.
  • Communicate game and practice schedules with parents and the community using online resources.
  • Attend PCC, IHSAA, and sectional meetings as required.
  • Maintain permanent records for each sport, including wins, losses, and outstanding records.
  • Supervise the maintenance and care of athletic fields and facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in sports management, education, or a related field.
  • Prior administrative, teaching, or sports management experience is preferred.
  • Prior athletic administrative experience is preferred.
  • Prior varsity coaching experience is preferred.
  • Desire to help people learn and grow.
  • Knowledge of public education principles, goals, and objectives.
  • Understanding of interscholastic sports program development and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with policies and regulations pertaining to interscholastic sports.
  • Ability to analyze and assess sports program needs and make recommendations.
  • Effective communication skills in both oral and written forms.
