About the position

The Evaluation Team Leader at West Springfield Public Schools is responsible for overseeing the delivery of special education programs and services to ensure compliance with legal guidelines. This role involves providing technical assistance, resources, and support as needed to facilitate effective special education practices. The Evaluation Team Leader will chair and facilitate various Team meetings, including Initial and Three Year Eligibility Determination meetings and Annual Reviews, for both in-district and out-of-district students. Additionally, the leader acts as the LEA Representative at these meetings and is responsible for scheduling and maintaining accurate records of Team meetings to comply with special education regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the delivery of special education programs and services to ensure compliance with legal guidelines.
  • Chairs and facilitates Team meetings (Initial and Three Year Eligibility Determination meetings and Annual Reviews) for both in-district and out-of-district students.
  • Acts as the LEA Representative at Team meetings.
  • Schedules Team meetings and provides written notice to assure compliance with special education regulations (maintains accurate scheduling and records).
  • Manages related services provided in coordination with IEPs.
  • Completes all relevant special education paperwork for Team meetings.
  • Ensures that any student receiving or entitled to receive special education instruction receives a full and comprehensive evaluation in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Ensures the involvement of parents in the special education process and provides basic explanations of parental rights and procedural safeguards and responsibilities under IDEA.
  • Ensures that the Evaluation Team follows procedural safeguards at all stages of the special education process.
  • Communicates with outside agencies involved with students about educational matters.
  • Acts as a liaison to the Director, Assistant Director, and Building Administrators.
  • Attends monthly special education department meetings with the Director and Assistant Director.
  • Collects data for regulatory compliance reports and analyzes data to inform instruction and support school and district decision-making.
  • Coordinates transition planning activities for students with IEPs.
  • Performs other tasks that may be assigned by the Director or Assistant Director of Special Services.
  • Assists with scheduling of MCAS and ensuring needed accommodations as outlined in the IEP are being provided.

Requirements

  • Moderate or Severe Special Education Teaching license Initial or higher.
  • SEI Endorsement.
