About the position

The Anticipated Long-term Substitute HS English position involves teaching high school English classes, creating a conducive learning environment, and meeting the individual needs of students. The role requires planning lessons, assessing student progress, and maintaining communication with parents, all while adhering to district curriculum goals and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
  • Guides the learning process toward achieving established district curriculum goals.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Prepares for classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the physical limitations of the location and student needs.
  • Implements the district's philosophy of education, instructional goals, and performance expectations.
  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  • Diagnoses learning challenges of students and seeks assistance from district specialists as needed.
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students and materials.
  • Follows the SICS code of conduct and develops fair classroom behavior rules.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for paraprofessionals and evaluates them as required.
  • Maintains a program of professional growth that satisfies district requirements.
  • Participates in the teacher evaluation process and contributes to mutual agreements regarding evaluations.
  • Attends building and district meetings to promote communication among staff.
  • Participates in traditional school-sponsored activities like Back to School Night and Open House.
  • Contributes to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license; or Master's Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 1.5 years.
  • Highly qualified with required competency in the content area.
  • Appropriate content/program area educator license and grade level licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Benefits

  • Competitive daily pay ranging from $175 to $225.
  • Full-time position with a day shift schedule, Monday to Friday.
