About the position

The anticipated long-term substitute position for a High School English teacher at Springfield International Charter School involves providing instruction and support to students in a classroom setting. The role requires planning and implementing a curriculum that meets the diverse needs of students while maintaining a conducive learning environment. The substitute teacher will be responsible for assessing student progress, communicating with parents, and adhering to district policies and educational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Guides the learning process toward achieving established district curriculum goals.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Prepares for assigned classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media based on student needs.
  • Implements the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals.
  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required.
  • Maintains accurate records as required by law and district policy.
  • Diagnoses learning challenges of students and seeks assistance from specialists as needed.
  • Takes precautions to protect students and classroom materials.
  • Follows the SICS code of conduct and develops fair classroom behavior rules.
  • Plans and supervises assignments for paraprofessionals and evaluates them as required.
  • Maintains a program of professional growth that meets district requirements.
  • Participates in the teacher evaluation process and contributes to mutual agreements on evaluations.
  • Attends building and district meetings to promote communication among staff.
  • Participates in traditional school-sponsored activities like Back to School Night and Open House.
  • Contributes to district and building decisions regarding budget, facilities, and curriculum.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license; or Master's Degree with appropriate content area license preferred.
  • Required competency in the content area; appropriate educator license and grade level licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
