About the position
The anticipated position of 7th & 8th Grade Boys' JV Basketball Coach at Northwood Middle School is aimed at providing leadership, motivation, and knowledge to student-athletes. The coach will be responsible for developing athletes' skills, ensuring their safety, and promoting a positive sportsmanship culture while adhering to the Mead School District's policies and procedures. This role is essential in fostering the physical, moral, and social development of students through athletics.
Responsibilities
- Instruct athletes on techniques, rules, and safety practices of basketball.
- Develop and organize practice programs.
- Schedule and conduct practices according to agreed-upon schedules.
- Supervise athletes during practices and games, ensuring their safety and whereabouts.
- Promote the interscholastic program and align it with the school's overall program.
- Set an example of ethical conduct and respect for officials.
- Foster good sportsmanship and pride among participants and spectators.
- Promote a healthy lifestyle for student-athletes.
- Assist the athletic director in maintaining eligibility lists for athletes.
- Ensure all required documentation is completed by athletes before the season starts.
- Communicate with parents regarding team rules and guidelines.
- Understand and follow the student-athlete handbook and district policies.
- Complete accident reports for any injuries during practices or games.
- Recognize and adhere to any athlete's health plans.
- Provide equal opportunities to all athletes as per the nondiscrimination policy.
Requirements
- Must be 19 or older for Assistant Coach and 21 or older for Head Coach per WIAA rules.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification or ability to acquire it by the start of the season.
- Type II Driver's License preferred.
- Understanding of basketball, its safety practices, techniques, and skill development.
