About the position

The Anticipated Regular Teacher (9-12 Spanish) position at Chicago Public Schools involves a comprehensive set of responsibilities aimed at fostering a positive and effective learning environment for high school students. Under the supervision of the school principal, the teacher will be responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes. This role requires the development and implementation of instructional plans that align with the objectives of the educational program, ensuring that all lesson plans are well-prepared and documented. The teacher will establish positive learning expectations and evaluate students' progress while maintaining accurate records of their achievements. In addition to instructional planning, the teacher will implement various instructional methods, drawing from a wide range of materials available within the school. This includes applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology, as well as participating in the development of new teaching techniques. The teacher will also be responsible for creating a classroom environment that reflects students' current work, including maintaining bulletin boards and interest areas. The role also encompasses promoting student attendance and participation in anti-vandalism programs, establishing reasonable rules of conduct, and maintaining accurate attendance records. The teacher will encourage student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept, ensuring fairness in teacher-pupil relationships. Communication with parents and guardians regarding students' academic progress, attendance, and conduct is also a critical aspect of this position. The teacher will participate in professional development meetings and may coordinate class field trips or engage in extracurricular activities, utilizing community resources to enhance the educational experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for instructional planning, including providing written lesson plans and preparation in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program.
  • Establish positive learning expectation standards for all pupils and evaluate pupils' progress while maintaining accurate records of achievements.
  • Implement instructional methods by applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new teaching techniques and maintain bulletin boards reflective of pupils' current work.
  • Promote student attendance and participate in anti-vandalism programs in the schools.
  • Establish and maintain reasonable rules of conduct within the classroom and on school grounds.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts.

  • Participate in in-service meetings and professional staff meetings.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Possession of a valid Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position.
  • Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of teaching and classroom management techniques.
  • Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs and cooperate with school faculty and administration.
  • Ability to work effectively with pupils, parents, guardians, staff members, and community representatives.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
