About the position

The IT Business Operations Analyst II at Apache Corporation will be an integral part of the Information Technology team based in Houston, Texas. This position reports directly to the IT Services & Support Senior Manager and is focused on maintaining and improving the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) processes. The analyst will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of configuration item (CI) attributes, reconciling discrepancies in data, and producing configuration status reports for infrastructure teams. This role requires collaboration with various IT groups to raise awareness and educate stakeholders about CMDB processes, as well as creating and maintaining process documentation to support operational tasks. In addition to maintaining CI attributes, the analyst will conduct configuration audit checks to ensure that physical IT data aligns with the CMDB. This includes initiating change workflow processes as necessary to update data reconciliation processes. The analyst will also work closely with other process owners to develop integration points and handoff protocols, ensuring that CMDB data meets its intended goals. A strong understanding of architectural components and how ongoing changes affect CMDB dependencies is essential for this role. The analyst will also be expected to communicate effectively with business analysts to understand application requirements and ensure that the CMDB supports these needs. The successful candidate will possess a strong technical background, particularly in configuration management, and will be familiar with IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) processes. They will have experience in process improvement, metrics development, and team leadership, enabling them to galvanize IT domains towards common objectives. Communication skills are crucial for reporting performance metrics to senior management and stakeholders, and the candidate should have a solid understanding of database development, data structures, and data modeling. A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or Information Technology is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain configuration item (CI) attributes and reconcile discrepancies in data
  • Liaison with other IT groups to raise awareness, educate and gain support of CMDB processes
  • Create and maintain process documentation
  • Produce configuration status account reports for infrastructure teams for operation tasks
  • Conduct configuration audit checks to reconcile physical IT data with CMDB
  • Initiate change workflow processes as needed to update data reconciliation processes
  • Work with other process owners to develop and ensure tight integration and handoff points
  • Interact and consult with appropriate business analysts to understand application requirements
  • Define architectural components to meet application requirements and assess ongoing architectural changes
  • Establish protocols for communicating with intersecting process owners/managers to ensure CMDB data achieves its goals
  • Familiarity with the CMDB activity cycle and knowledge of dependency mapping solutions

Requirements

  • Familiarity with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) changes and configuration management processes; certification is a plus
  • Strong process improvement experience and ability to develop metrics and quantify value returned
  • Possess team leadership skills to galvanize IT domains (networking, storage, application management)
  • Excellent communication skills for reporting performance and metrics to senior management and stakeholders
  • Technical background in configuration management
  • Experience with database development, data structures, data schemas, and data modeling
  • Cross-domain experience with ancillary applications (such as security) for understanding critical intersections of the CMDB
  • Familiarity with specific installed CMDB solutions for established initiatives
  • Ability to develop and determine trusted data sources and reconciliation processes
  • Experience with cost justification of IT operation projects
  • Experience with budgeting, project planning, and related tasks
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or Information Technology
