About the position

The API Developer (RPG/AS400) position is a part-time, contract role based in Denver, Colorado, with an initial onsite requirement followed by a fully remote work arrangement. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in RPG programming on the AS400 platform and will be responsible for developing secure API endpoints that facilitate real-time data interaction between the AS400 system and various applications. This role is particularly suited for individuals seeking a supplemental side gig, such as retirees or those with other flexible job commitments. In this position, the developer will create API endpoints in RPG to enable data retrieval and posting on the AS400 system. Security is paramount, and the APIs must be secured using user/password/token authentication and SSL, as they will operate within their own firewall. The developer will collaborate with other applications, including Warehouse Management Systems and Financial Systems, to ensure seamless data access and updates. Additionally, the role involves owning the API development process and serving as the primary educator on API endpoints for the company. Effective communication and documentation of the API build and call process are essential to facilitate knowledge transfer among team members. Ongoing support and development for custom RPG/Cobol coding will also be part of the responsibilities.
