About the position

The API Developer position at Kforce Inc involves working remotely to support the modernization efforts of financial software products. The role requires candidates with varying levels of experience in Node.js environments to contribute to application software development and technical support. The API Developer will be responsible for coding, testing, debugging, and maintaining software applications while ensuring system improvements are effectively implemented.

Responsibilities

  • Provide application software development services and technical support across a suite of financial software products.
  • Develop program logic for new applications or analyze and modify logic in existing applications.
  • Code, test, debug, document, implement and maintain software applications.
  • Manage user authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments.
  • Integrate multiple data sources and databases into one system.
  • Maintain, test and integrate application components.
  • Make recommendations towards the development of new code or reuse of existing code.
  • Ensure system improvements are successfully implemented.
  • Analyze requirements and translate business requirements into product designs.
  • Write technical specifications and other forms of documentation.
  • Suggest technical alternatives and improve/streamline processes and systems.
  • Complete project assignments and special projects commensurate with job expectations.
  • Work in an Agile environment following Scrum methodologies.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.
  • Previous work experience with Node.js API frameworks.
  • Experience in supporting and/or implementing complex integration projects.
  • Experience in using version control systems like git or Bit Bucket.
  • Experience working with cloud-based infrastructure, such as AWS or Azure.
  • Working experience in Agile framework.
  • Knowledge of RESTful API services.
  • Knowledge of MongoDB, Apache Kafka, and Kubernetes.
  • In-depth knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
  • Knowledge of Node.js and frameworks available for it (e.g. Express).
  • Extensive knowledge of JavaScript.
  • Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application.
  • Understanding the nature of asynchronous programming and its quirks and workarounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels in the organization.
  • Willingness to share relevant technical and/or industry knowledge and expertise to other resources.
  • Excellent problem-solving, team and time management skills.
  • Resourceful and proactive information gathering and sharing skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using Atlassian tools (Jira, Bit-Bucket).
  • Experience working with cloud-based technologies like AWS.
  • Knowledge of the banking industry.
  • Working knowledge of multiple IDEs and debug utilities.
  • Working knowledge of test-driven development.
