About the position

The Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient - Proteins Co-Op at Johnson & Johnson is a hands-on role designed for students pursuing degrees in engineering or related fields. This co-op position offers real-life experience in drug substance processes for antibody-based therapeutics, focusing on downstream development and process modeling. The program emphasizes skill development, mentorship, and networking opportunities within a fast-paced, technologically advanced corporate environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the API Proteins group within Therapeutics Development and Supply.
  • Develop drug substance processes for new antibody-based therapeutics.
  • Work in the lab to develop a new mode of operation for antibody chromatography.
  • Define the operating space for the chromatography step and its linkage to the entire DSP process.
  • Perform data aggregation and process modeling as time allows.
  • Participate in technical discussions on experimental design.
  • Maintain a laboratory notebook and other technical documents according to required guidelines.
  • Provide other project support as needed.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited University pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related majors.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8 is required.
  • Completion of Undergraduate Freshman year at an accredited University is required.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and initiatives.

Nice-to-haves

  • Students pursuing their Bachelor's degree, preferably Juniors or Seniors.
  • Basic laboratory skills and experience in research, experimental design & execution.
  • Familiarity with coding languages (Python/R) and data analysis.
  • Hands-on experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
