About the position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Trauma Services is responsible for providing primary care to patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Trauma Intensive Care Unit. This role involves making diagnoses, establishing and implementing care plans, and ensuring quality patient care through collaboration with healthcare teams. The APP will focus on patient-centered care, health promotion, and education while adhering to state laws and institutional policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, treat, manage, educate, and coordinate care for patients with acute and chronic health needs.
  • Perform accurate and complete history and physical assessments of patients.
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic studies.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and modify care plans as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Facilitate coordinated care and communication among healthcare team members.
  • Incorporate patients and families in care planning and treatment.
  • Consider cost-effectiveness and risk/benefit analysis in patient care decisions.
  • Utilize evidence-based medicine to improve patient care practices.
  • Develop and implement standards of care within the area of specialization.
  • Participate in research opportunities to advance patient care.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with physicians and health professionals.
  • Counsel and educate patients and families about their health.
  • Advocate for patients and families in navigating the healthcare system.
  • Participate in the education of students and other healthcare professionals.
  • Engage in quality initiative and performance activities.
  • Promote interdisciplinary practice and overcome collaboration barriers.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from an accredited Nursing Program (for Nurse Practitioners) or Master's Degree from an accredited PA Program (for Physician Assistants).
  • Active RN and APRN license in the State of Oklahoma and active board certification for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Active PA license in the State of Oklahoma and active PA board certification for Physician Assistants.
  • Active DEA license from the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association upon hire.
  • CPR certification and Advanced Life Support certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP) required upon hire.
  • A minimum of one year experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical conditions' etiologies, risk factors, and pathophysiology.
  • Proficiency in procedural skills pertinent to the practice area.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
