About the position

Barton & Gray Mariners Club is seeking an App Developer on a contract basis to assist in the development and maintenance of the company's proprietary software. This role is crucial for enhancing the user experience for both front-end and back-end operations of the business, which operates over 80 yachts across 33 harbors. The App Developer will report directly to the Chief Technology Advisor and will be responsible for collaborating with various departments to ensure that the applications meet the needs of the business and its members. This contract position is expected to last for four months, with the potential for transitioning into a permanent role based on performance and business needs. The App Developer will engage in a variety of tasks including the design, development, and maintenance of iOS applications that are critical to the operations of Barton & Gray. The role requires writing well-structured and readable code in Swift, analyzing and refactoring existing code, and converting various content types into SwiftUI views. The developer will also conduct code reviews, troubleshoot and debug issues, and stay updated with the latest trends and best practices in iOS development. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of iOS applications critical to the business.
  • Collaborate with designers and department managers to understand project requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Write well-constructed, readable code in Swift.
  • Analyze and refactor code; write test cases.
  • Convert content into SwiftUI views.
  • Understand processes and human nature that drive application processes, constraints, and requirements.
  • Use prototype-to-production methods and embrace test-driven development.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues to ensure optimal performance and user experience.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest iOS development trends, tools, and best practices.
  • Contribute ideas for improving existing products and processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Swift programming language and iOS development frameworks (UIKit, Core Animation, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of HTML/CSS/JavaScript/Web Frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Xcode IDE and version control systems (Git).
  • Basic understanding of software design principles and patterns.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Prior experience with mobile app development (personal projects, internships, or academic coursework) is a plus.
