About the position

The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (PRN) at Parkland Health and Hospital System is responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare to patients in designated primary or specialty areas, focusing on patient diagnoses, treatment, education, and referrals. This role serves as a resource and role model for clinical practice, training, and evaluation of practitioners and students, ensuring optimal patient care quality. The practitioner will assist leadership in assessing, planning, organizing, and implementing advanced practice provider activities, contributing to the overall mission of health and well-being in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Performs clinical practitioner duties in designated specialty areas, including obtaining histories, performing physical exams, making assessments, and ordering tests.
  • Records health history, findings, treatment, and recommendations accurately and manages time effectively to ensure optimal use of resources.
  • Includes patients and families in determining the plan of care and educates them for self-management and compliance with treatment.
  • Supports interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure continuous quality care and promotes positive health outcomes.
  • Stays updated on developments in the practice field through seminars, workshops, and professional organizations, and participates in education activities.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and policies impacting the APP fields and develops internal controls for compliance.
  • Identifies work processes and suggests changes to improve effectiveness and efficiency in the department.
  • Assists in developing, implementing, and monitoring annual goals and objectives for the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program or a Master's Degree in Nursing accredited through CCNE or ACEN.
  • 2 plus years of clinical experience as an Advanced Practice provider (APP) in any field.
  • Current healthcare provider BLS certification from recognized organizations.
  • Current certification in ACLS, ATLS, PALS, SAMA, and NRP, to be attained within 90 days of hire.
  • Current valid Physician Assistant licensure or RN licensure from the Texas Board of Nursing with authorization to practice as an APRN.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a neonatal care setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems.
