About the position
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the Emergency Department at Sanford Health provides comprehensive care to patients in various settings, including acute and long-term care. This role involves assessing patients, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure effective patient care. The NP/PA will also maintain detailed patient records and may participate in clinical research, all while adhering to state regulations and best practices in healthcare.
Responsibilities
- Provide service to patients in designated care settings, including acute, short and long-term care.
- Assist physicians in assessing patients and treating injuries and ailments.
- Obtain thorough medical histories from patients and perform examinations to determine needs.
- Analyze and interpret information collected from patients and medical records to establish appropriate diagnoses.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide care and formulate treatment plans.
- Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized.
- Maintain complete and detailed records of patients' health care plans and prognoses.
- Make necessary healthcare referrals and provide patients with information to promote health.
- Counsel patients and family members about self-management and treatment plans.
- Incorporate evidence-based practice guidelines into care.
Requirements
- Completion of a master's, postmaster's, or doctorate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
- Current licensure by the applicable state board of nursing for advanced practice.
- Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances.
- Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (NP-C) or (FNP-BC).
- Demonstrated current competence in providing care for an adequate volume of patients in the past twelve months.
