About the position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the Emergency Department at Sanford Health provides comprehensive care to patients in various settings, including acute and long-term care. This role involves assessing patients, developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure effective patient care. The NP/PA will also maintain detailed patient records and may participate in clinical research, all while adhering to state regulations and best practices in healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Provide service to patients in designated care settings, including acute, short and long-term care.
  • Assist physicians in assessing patients and treating injuries and ailments.
  • Obtain thorough medical histories from patients and perform examinations to determine needs.
  • Analyze and interpret information collected from patients and medical records to establish appropriate diagnoses.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide care and formulate treatment plans.
  • Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized.
  • Maintain complete and detailed records of patients' health care plans and prognoses.
  • Make necessary healthcare referrals and provide patients with information to promote health.
  • Counsel patients and family members about self-management and treatment plans.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practice guidelines into care.

Requirements

  • Completion of a master's, postmaster's, or doctorate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
  • Current licensure by the applicable state board of nursing for advanced practice.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (NP-C) or (FNP-BC).
  • Demonstrated current competence in providing care for an adequate volume of patients in the past twelve months.
