The Apple News Editor for Local News plays a crucial role in curating and highlighting the best journalism from leading publishers, specifically focusing on local and weather news. This position is designed for a candidate who possesses a deep understanding of Los Angeles and its diverse communities, as well as familiarity with the local Spanish-language media landscape. The editor will be responsible for making real-time decisions based on current events, ensuring that the content selected is not only engaging but also accurate and of high quality. The work week is structured from Sunday through Thursday, allowing for a focused approach to curating news content during the week. In this role, the editor will select top stories for various cities across the country, emphasizing the importance of quality and engagement. The editor will also be tasked with writing sharp and engaging copy tailored to the Apple News audience, collaborating closely with the copy and standards team to ensure adherence to the house style. Additionally, the editor will choose and program relevant stories into the Weather app, further enhancing the user experience by providing timely and pertinent information. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in newsrooms, showcasing excellent curation and headline-writing skills.
