About the position

The Application Analyst Sr. position within the Field Technology pillar at Southern Company Gas is responsible for refining requirements and creating functional and technical designs for custom applications that support field applications. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure that business requirements are effectively translated into functional and technical designs, while also providing production support and incident remediation.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Business Systems Analysts, TPAs, BOTS, and business partners to refine high-level requirements and changes being requested.
  • Facilitate and drive the creation of Functional Design documents, ensuring initial requirements are reviewed and enhanced into full functional requirements.
  • Develop solutions that leverage base products rather than customization when dealing with COTS systems.
  • Drive the creation of Technical Design documents, ensuring all functional requirements are translated into technical designs for seamless handover to the development team.
  • Develop and implement Requirements Traceability to ensure all requirements are tested.
  • Assist in developing technology solutions to highly complex problems using deep technical expertise and creativity.
  • Prioritize work and deliver on project commitments.
  • Maintain and follow production support processes focused on identification and mitigation of root causes.
  • Flex to meet customer demands, switching between production support, incident management, and project work.
  • Provide on-call support, solving issues independently and assisting other personnel.
  • Support and mentor less experienced analysts during project work and on-call incidents.
  • Ensure strategies align with Technology Organization goals and strategies, including following the Governance process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to work with business partners and peers of varying levels of technical proficiency.
  • Interest in and passion for learning and working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with projects of all sizes, enhancement projects, and production support.
  • Ability to identify root causes and required mitigations while collaborating with technical staff.
  • Experience creating and refining Functional Design Documents, Technical Design Documents, and Requirements Traceability matrices.
  • Knowledge of business analyst processes, methodologies, and tools.
  • Strong experience supporting applications utilizing public cloud, Azure Net stack, and mobile applications.
  • Experience with Waterfall, Agile delivery, Kanban, and Scrum methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Advanced understanding of various technical principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Broad understanding of a wide range of technical areas.
  • Ability to provide on-call support, solving issues independently and assisting less experienced personnel.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex technical ideas into non-technical language.
  • Strong ITIL Foundation.
