About the position

The Application Database Administrator (DBA) at the University of Maryland, College Park, is responsible for comprehensive database optimization and administration for enterprise-level, cross-campus services. This role involves configuring and maintaining various database systems, providing 24/7 support for critical production systems, and ensuring the overall health and performance of databases.

Responsibilities

  • Configuring and maintaining Postgres, Oracle databases (AWS RDS), MSSQL (Azure), and Redshift data warehouse platform.
  • Monitoring database health, performance, availability, deployment, backup and recovery, and security.
  • Analyzing and guiding customers with SQL and PostgreSQL queries for application requirements.
  • Providing 24×7 support for critical production systems.
  • Performing scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Configuring and maintaining the Denodo data virtualization tool.
  • Independently analyzing, solving, and correcting issues in real time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 4 to 7 years of Database Administration experience primarily with Postgres, Oracle (AWS RDS), Redshift, and MSSQL databases.
  • Experience in writing SQL queries and PL/SQL scripts.
  • Experience in configuring and maintaining Denodo data virtualization tool.
  • Working knowledge of Postgres (AWS RDS), Oracle (AWS RDS), MSSQL, and Redshift databases.
  • Skilled in SQL/PostgreSQL query tuning and database tuning.
