The Application/Database Developer, Tier 1 position is a critical role within the organization, responsible for developing, testing, and maintaining Microsoft .Net Windows and web-based applications to support the business requirements of the Empire State Development (ESD). The ideal candidate will possess a proficient knowledge of current Microsoft Application Development tools and programming languages, demonstrating the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. This hybrid role requires a proactive approach to application programming, system installation and maintenance, diagnostics, performance monitoring, end-user support, system disaster recovery, application testing, and documentation. Additionally, the developer will provide technical assistance in various IT areas as directed by department managers. In this role, the developer will actively participate in all stages of the application development life cycle, supporting and enhancing .Net and MS Dynamics workflows and customizations. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining SQL Server Database Applications, migrating legacy applications to MS Dynamics and other cloud-based technologies such as Azure, and configuring MS Dynamics entities, field-level security, and business units. The developer will also be tasked with creating, modifying, deploying, and supporting custom dashboards, charts, and reports in both custom applications and MS Dynamics. Providing support for MS Office applications, particularly Access and Excel, as well as conducting data analysis and ad hoc reporting for application users and ESD management, will also be key components of this position. The role requires effective communication and collaboration with project managers, end users, and third-party vendors to ensure application requirements are met. Troubleshooting application performance bottlenecks to ensure efficient workflow and data processing is essential, as is the development of test and debug strategies to ensure system reliability and data integrity. The developer will be expected to research new technologies to enhance their professional knowledge and maintain an industry-current skill set. Additionally, assisting with IT disaster recovery efforts, including testing and documentation, will be part of the responsibilities. The position is expected to work onsite and/or remotely in accordance with New York State and ESD guidelines and needs.
