About the position

The Application Design Engineering Intern at GlobalFoundries is a summer internship program aimed at providing students with hands-on experience in the semiconductor industry. Interns will work closely with the Application Engineering - Design (AE-D) team, supporting customer inquiries related to Process Design Kits (PDKs) and design tools. This role emphasizes mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities within a leading semiconductor foundry.

Responsibilities

  • Support the US AE-D team in resolving technical questions, which may involve debugging design tools.
  • Verify reported bugs in the Process Design Kit (PDK) and document them clearly for assessment.
  • Assist with metric tracking for the US AE-D team.
  • Participate in technical discussions with the PDK development team to implement fixes and enhancements.
  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner, supporting Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering with at least a sophomore standing.
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and in good academic standing.
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal).
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior related internship or co-op experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in workplace, school projects, or competitions.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to innovate and execute solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Experience with tools such as Cadence, Mentor/Siemens, and Synopsys, as well as device engineering or silicon technology process development.
