About the position

The Application Developer B/C position at the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine focuses on developing and maintaining user-friendly web frontends for data management and analysis related to diabetes research. The role involves collaboration with backend developers and participation in the design and implementation of a large-scale cloud-based data commons for diabetes research, contributing to the dissemination of genomics and imaging data modalities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with backend developers to design, implement, and maintain a user-friendly web frontend for data management, integration, and analysis programs.
  • Contribute to development, testing, and maintenance of solutions for dissemination of several genomics and imaging data modalities.
  • Participate in the technical design and implementation of a large-scale, cloud-based ‘data commons' for diabetes research, including data ingestion, harmonization, and storage.
  • Optionally participate in subsequent data analysis, integration, and interpretation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in computer science, engineering, or related fields with a minimum of 1 year of experience in programming or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with modern JavaScript web frameworks (React/Redux) and service-oriented architecture.
  • Experience with at least one modern visualization package (e.g., D3.js, Three.js).
  • Familiarity with build systems, version control systems, and other standard development tools.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a rapidly evolving team.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proven 2 to 3 years of experience in modern JavaScript web frameworks.
  • Experience in modern web-based visualization (e.g., D3.js, Three.js).
  • Experience with Cloud API programming.
