About the position

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is seeking an Application Developer specializing in Epic Cadence and Referrals applications. This role involves workflow analysis, application design, testing, and implementation, working closely with project management teams, stakeholders, and end users to enhance healthcare information systems.

Responsibilities

  • Research system solutions and collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze workflows and develop application design.
  • Create functional/technical specifications for system build and complex integrated systems.
  • Demonstrate features to the user community and assess applicability, impact, and value.
  • Configure and customize applications, reviewing builds for efficiency and correctness.
  • Develop and maintain testing scripts for execution during updates and upgrades.
  • Perform unit and integrated testing of assigned application workflows.
  • Adhere to Change Management and IT Security policies and procedures.
  • Complete Epic Certifications/accreditations or maintain relevant certifications specific to the role.
  • Troubleshoot/debug and identify malfunctioning systems, implementing fixes as needed.
  • Resolve complex system problems through participation in 24 x 7 on-call rotations.
  • Document system design and build, and evaluate system upgrades for new functionality.
  • Create work plans and provide oversight for assigned projects, monitoring and reporting progress.
  • Translate system and end user requests into business solutions.
  • Offer mentoring for staff and leadership in a specific area of expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and application development/support experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in application development/support, preferably in healthcare.
  • Experience in integrated information system implementation cycles including design, workflow analysis, build, training, implementation, testing, and support.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience supporting an EHR in an ambulatory or hospital setting.
  • Experience with workflows such as patient scheduling, referrals, prior authorization, and registration.
  • Epic certification/accreditation in Epic Cadence, Epic Referrals, or Epic Prelude.
  • Experience using tools for customizing vendor application software.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to write application test scripts.
