About the position

The Application Developer-FG at Forestar Group is responsible for defining, developing, testing, analyzing, and maintaining both new and existing software applications to meet business requirements. This role involves writing, coding, testing, and analyzing software programs, as well as researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software specifications throughout the production life cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design, customization, development, and deployment of new applications that streamline internal business processes.
  • Maintain existing IT systems and legacy applications to extend and enhance functionality.
  • Conduct thorough testing of applications and recommend/implement bug fixes.
  • Pinpoint application, operating system, database, and networking issues and perform problem determination for correcting defects.
  • Troubleshoot advanced application, database, network and other computer-related issues with little or no supervision.
  • Complete estimates for project tasks and perform analysis for optimal design solutions.
  • Track and prioritize assigned tasks related to development, maintenance, or enhancement of applications and databases.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation of complex application environments.
  • Enable communication between Application Development Teams and IT Support Teams.
  • Set up new user accounts with access to existing applications.
  • Automate technical processes and maintain current expertise with rapidly changing technology.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of application orientation and training materials.
  • Log and document issues and resolutions in the remedy tracking system.
  • Provide backup in the absence of the Director of Corporate Applications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 6+ years of experience with data analysis and application development
  • Extensive SQL coding knowledge and experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI, including Power Query and DAX
  • Previous experience with or knowledge of quality assurance testing
  • Experience with technical documentation of complex application environments
  • Experience working in software development
  • Ability to quickly learn new IT systems and applications
  • Ability to apply logical methods to solve difficult problems and generate effective solutions
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and listening skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email
  • Ability to sit for the majority of an 8-hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Science, Accounting, Business Analysis or Mathematics
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics (D365)
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and/or creating Paginated Reports
  • Experience using Azure DevOps (ADO) for software development
