About the position

The Application Developer II position at the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation involves participating in the analysis, design, and programming of computer systems. The role focuses on modifying existing applications, testing and debugging software, and maintaining data-driven applications using Microsoft .NET technologies. This position supports the agency's mission to enhance workplace safety and efficiency in South Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the analysis, design, and programming of computer systems.
  • Complete approved modifications to functionality using standard analysis and design techniques.
  • Test and debug new or existing applications considering business logic and requirements.
  • Design, implement, and maintain data-driven applications using Microsoft .NET (C# language).
  • Create graphical user interfaces using responsive design principles, including JavaScript, CSS, SASS, and LESS.
  • Perform system maintenance and troubleshooting related to software service tickets.
  • Test system modifications, communicate changes to users, and monitor system performance metrics.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and work experience in system program modification and maintenance, or an associate/bachelor's degree in a related field as a substitute for work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or management information science, or an associate degree with three years of experience in computer system development, modification, maintenance, or programming; or high school graduation with five years of experience in the same areas.
  • Knowledge of computer system analysis, design, testing, debugging, and maintenance techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer programming languages.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work effectively with users, vendors, and staff members.
  • Ability to plan, direct, instruct, and review the work of technical personnel.
  • Knowledge of SQL Table and Query design.
  • Knowledge of how scripts, databases, CSS, and HTML fit into Web Development.
  • Familiarity with markup languages (XML, HTML).
  • Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming and knowledge of C# language syntax.
  • Experience with MSSQL, JavaScript/JQuery, HTML 5, and CSS 3.0.
