About the position

The Application Developer III role at Boston University's School of Dental Medicine is a client-facing software development position responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications. This role involves significant participation in all stages of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), contributing to project planning, technology resource assessment, cost and design reviews, programming, testing/debugging, documentation, training, and ongoing support. The developer will work closely with clients to gather requirements and perform needs assessments for software and integration projects, ensuring applications meet business needs and are optimized for performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy applications for the Goldman School of Dental Medicine.
  • Participate in all stages of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM).
  • Contribute to project planning, technology resource assessment, cost and design reviews, programming, testing/debugging, documentation, training, and follow-up support.
  • Develop, integrate, and implement applications, focusing on database architecture and application optimization.
  • Meet with clients to gather requirements and perform needs assessments for new and existing software and integration projects.
  • Analyze, design, and architect applications for the Dental School, including identification of business requirements and workflow modeling.
  • Work closely with the Development Team to prioritize projects and tasks and set deadlines.
  • Resolve escalated application support issues and conduct application performance and availability monitoring.
  • Assist with continual review of best practices for collaborative software development projects.
  • Provide input on solutions from other developers and review new technologies to enhance skills.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree required, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of total experience in software development.
  • 1-3 years experience in Perl and Python development, SQL, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Source control experience (Git, TFS).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA security and FERPA data is a plus.
  • Experience with PowerShell, Apple script, C# web development, IIS, and Microsoft SQL Server administration is a plus.
