About the position

The Application Developer Manager at the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) is a leadership role responsible for overseeing a team of developers. This position requires a strong background in software development, problem-solving, and mentoring, ensuring the delivery of high-quality software solutions that meet the needs of the agency and its stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of junior developers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.
  • Utilize extensive programming experience to solve complex problems and write clean, efficient code.
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define project requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Review and approve code developed by junior team members, ensuring it meets quality, security, and performance standards.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, tools, and technologies to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts and project updates to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and three years of directly-related supervisory/management experience, or five years of directly-related supervisory/management experience, or one year of experience at the lower level Mgr, Information Technology (ITM020) or position equivalent.
  • Proven experience in leading or mentoring a development team.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining projects with a significant user base and impact.
  • Proficiency in modern software development languages such as Python, Javascript/Typescript, C#/.NET, C++, Rust, Go, or other languages.
  • Experience with database management systems such as MS SQL Server, Postgres, MySQL, Oracle, or other databases.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • A portfolio of completed projects or contributions with high visibility and usage.
  • Familiarity with modern CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Java/Kotlin and Javascript/Typescript building REST APIs and/or GraphQL services.
  • Experience deploying solutions using Docker and Docker Compose.
  • Experience managing Windows and Linux servers deployed on-premises and in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.
