About the position

Xcel Engineering is seeking an Application Developer to provide advanced development and programming support for Java-based applications. The role involves troubleshooting, improving application quality, maintaining data, and ensuring compliance with software quality assurance policies. The developer will work with REST APIs, SQL databases, and various scripting languages to enhance application processes and workflows.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced development and programming support for Java-based applications using JavaScript and Eclipse.
• Pull and push data via REST API components.
• Troubleshoot JavaScript code and errors, ensuring business rules are enforced in applications.
• Improve system notifications, user-based error messages, and application logging via script.
• Maintain application data via Microsoft SQL Server, developing SQL routines and queries to identify data patterns or issues.
• Implement effective and repeatable query updates to resolve data quality issues and perform data validations during migrations.
• Troubleshoot software problems and provide resolutions, including advanced debugging techniques.
• Test scripting changes and ensure application releases are delivered without error, including writing documentation.
• Ensure application documentation remains up-to-date and follows Software Quality Assurance policies and procedures.
• Document and track software configuration changes in ServiceNow change management system.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer information systems, or related technical/science degree.
• 6+ years of experience in advanced JavaScript and/or Java scripting.
• Ability to write REST API calls and manage data imports/exports.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server databases, including writing queries and improving table performance.
• Formalized application development and debugging techniques.

• Strong customer focus and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with web-based Java applications on Windows server platforms hosted via Apache.
• Experience with application security architectures.
• Advanced data query techniques and BI analytics experience with MS SQL Server (2016 or later).
• Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing needs.
