About the position

This position involves performing all phases of applications systems analysis, including analyzing system specifications, developing applications, and ensuring timely delivery of quality technical solutions. The role requires collaboration within a team environment, utilizing Agile and Waterfall methodologies, and focuses on integrating distributed technologies on the mainframe. The candidate will also mentor junior team members and ensure they understand business requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure team members understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions.
  • Maintain and modify programs according to specifications.
  • Code, compile, and implement application software that is delivered on time and within budget.
  • Test modified programs, create necessary test files and data, verify logic, debug, and write relevant documentation.
  • Analyze production systems, recommend systems enhancements, and provide instruction to the production support team.
  • Research customer issues and determine appropriate resolutions.
  • Coordinate implementation of modifications or enhancements.
  • Analyze and evaluate existing or proposed systems.
  • Develop functional design and technical specifications, concept diagrams, and work flow diagrams to process data using appropriate systems environment/platform.
  • Document programs/procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a job-related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 4 years of application development, systems testing, or other job-related experience.
  • Strong understanding of applications/development, quality assurance, and integration methodologies in a mainframe, midrange, web, and/or PC/LAN environment.
  • Strong analysis, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and as part of a team.
  • Strong knowledge of interpersonal skills/team building.

Nice-to-haves

  • Exposure to large systems with an insurance company or financial institution.
  • Mainframe development experience or an interest in learning mainframe technologies.
  • Experience with COBOL, APS, DB2, and IMS.
  • Knowledge/Proficiency in JavaScript, Node.js, Jenkins, GIT, Vue, Python, VSCode, MongoDB.
