About the position

The Application Developer role is a contract position focused on software development within the IT industry. The developer will participate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), primarily concentrating on development tasks while collaborating with business analysts and customers to gather requirements. The position emphasizes secure programming practices, code documentation, unit testing, and release management, with the developer acting as a domain technology expert within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), with a primary focus on development tasks.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and customers to gather and understand business requirements.
  • Apply secure programming techniques, following established coding standards and best practices.
  • Write and maintain well-documented code, ensuring it is clear for peers and testers.
  • Perform unit testing to ensure code quality and minimize defects.
  • Manage configuration, source code control, and deployment processes.
  • Handle release management, ensuring smooth deployment and version control.
  • Work at the application level, focusing on domain-specific technologies and solutions.
  • Act as a domain technology expert, providing technical leadership and guidance within the team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of programming experience with PowerBuilder, including use of PowerBuilder Foundation Class (PFC) libraries.
  • Experience working in Agile teams and using Agile development methodologies.
  • Proficiency with Informix or Oracle databases and associated database tools.
  • Experience with PowerBuilder source control tools such as Microsoft VSS or similar platforms.
  • Strong ability to read, understand, and document program code, particularly in support of DECORUM projects.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and resolving issues within existing applications.
  • Experience in managing and resolving routine support tickets.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly understand both programming and business logic.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex business rules to third-party vendors and contractors, using graphical tools to enhance understanding.
  • Familiarity with other programming languages, such as 4GL and PHP, with the ability to perform top-down testing across various application interfaces to quickly grasp business concepts.
