About the position

The Cable Backplane Development Engineer at Amphenol High Speed Products Group is responsible for the design and development of high-speed custom cable assemblies tailored to meet specific customer application needs. This role involves collaborating with customers and cross-functional teams to ensure product functionality, manufacturability, and adherence to performance standards, while also providing technical support and project management throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Full technical responsibility for planning, organizing, and conducting technical projects within the design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of electrical connectors and cable systems.
  • Work closely with key customers and management to develop custom products that satisfy customer requirements.
  • Translate customer and market requirements to product concepts through brainstorming and collaboration with multi-site teams.
  • Design for Manufacturability to ensure optimal product design without compromising functionality and performance.
  • Ensure connectors meet all functional requirements for customer applications.
  • Provide support and feedback to Sales Engineering and Field Application Engineering.
  • Regularly update project status internally and externally through meetings and communication.
  • Conceive and plan projects involving new concepts and approaches to connector and cable system design.
  • Create necessary documentation for product definition, including drawings and specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet customer requirements and program schedules.
  • Provide product cost data to support Product Management and Manufacturing.
  • Offer technical support to Sales and marketing personnel, including training and presentations.
  • Coordinate and assess testing and qualifications to ensure product conformity with specifications.
  • Evaluate the quality and functionality of prototypes and samples for customer use.
  • Complete design verifications in early project stages, including calculations and simulations.
  • Develop and execute test plans for product qualification to internal and customer design requirements.
  • Conduct competitive analysis to maximize product competitiveness.
  • Manage the lifecycle of new and existing components and assemblies.
  • Support manufacturing facilities on cost reduction and quality issues.
  • Stay updated on technological developments in the connector industry.
  • Apply for patents to protect intellectual property.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience in product development/design minimum.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • Experience designing and developing high-speed connectors, cable assemblies, and cable assembly systems.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical reasoning and problem-solving abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Familiarity with patent application processes.
