About the position

The Scrum Master at USAA plays a crucial role in facilitating Agile practices within a high-performing team of Software Engineers. This position is dedicated to managing the product backlog, ensuring adherence to Agile values, and leading the team to meet and exceed objectives. The Scrum Master will work closely with various stakeholders to promote a self-organizing team environment and drive continuous improvement in team dynamics and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates major Agile ceremonies across multiple development teams.
  • Consults with and advises teams, including the Product Owner, to support a smooth transition to Agile practices.
  • Enables continuous improvement and facilitates communication across teams to manage dependencies and remove impediments.
  • Supports and educates product owners in refining and managing the product backlog.
  • Influences and facilitates the empowerment of a self-organizing team.
  • Schedules and facilitates cross-functional meetings.
  • Ensures transparency on team progress and productivity through appropriate tools and reports.
  • Performs risk, issue, and dependency management for teams, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Ensures release management practices align with enterprise standards.
  • Acts as Agile Subject Matter Expert (SME) to teams, product owners, and management.
  • Participates in the Scrum Master Community of Practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 4 years of relevant experience in process improvement, project management, software engineering, or business analysis with Agile/Scrum experience.
  • Knowledge of multiple Agile delivery frameworks (e.g., Kanban, Scrum, XP, Lean, SAFe, DevOps).
  • Knowledge of compliance and risk management frameworks.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

  • Business knowledge in the Insurance industry with emphasis on claims management.
  • Experience using Atlassian Agile tools (Jira and Confluence).
  • Understanding of software design patterns and application architectural patterns.
