About the position

The Application Engineer 3 - Building Controls Engineer at Setpoint Systems is a pivotal role within the Engineering department, focusing on the design and implementation of building automation systems. This position requires collaboration with team members and clients to ensure successful project execution from inception to completion, emphasizing energy conservation and efficient system design. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and a structured approach to work, contributing to a culture of teamwork and excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC temperature control systems
  • Design lighting and access control systems
  • Manage projects from kickoff to closeout, including submittal drawings and various project phases
  • Independently design complex projects with a focus on energy conservation
  • Design BAS systems for HVAC, lighting, and access control using Delta Controls
  • Prepare cost estimates for control systems in commercial, industrial, and institutional settings
  • Conduct energy utilization conservation calculations
  • Manage labor budgets and handle re-estimations, RFIs, and change orders
  • Collaborate with customers to gather key information for design requirements
  • Participate in training and knowledge sharing with coworkers
  • Work with account managers on construction estimates and proposal writing
  • Regularly update management on project progress and concerns
  • Utilize internal resources for training and development, including vendor training and design materials
  • Maintain expert knowledge of Delta product line and BACnet protocols.

Requirements

  • BS in mechanical engineering or 10+ years of experience in building control systems or equivalent HVAC knowledge
  • Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems and equipment specifications
  • Working knowledge of DDC, electric, and pneumatic control systems
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration in a professional setting.
