About the position

As an Engineer on the Business Technology Finance Corporate Services Team at Discover, you will lead the design and development of ETL pipelines that transform and load financial data into a warehouse for reporting purposes. This role involves developing AbInitio ETL applications and maintaining data-driven solutions using current and next-generation technologies. You will be responsible for translating business visions into technical solutions, overseeing product design and implementation, and mentoring early-career engineers.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, design, code, test, and deploy new user stories and product features with high quality.
• Guide early-career engineers by providing learning tasks and directing their work.
• Oversee application, system, and architecture design decisions.
• Remediate issues using engineering principles and create proactive design solutions.
• Achieve team commitments through collaboration with engineers, architects, product owners, and data scientists.
• Contribute to and lead technology communities of practice at Discover.
• Identify improvement opportunities and recommend technical solutions.
• Ensure proper data governance policies are followed.
• Optimize the performance of ETL processes and scripts.
• Provide business analysis and develop ETL code and scripting.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Informatics, Information Security, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in Information Technology or Software Engineering.
• Technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale for internal applicants.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) based solutions such as Snowflake and S3.
• Knowledge of Data Warehouse technology (Linux/Teradata/Ab Initio/Postgres/Oracle/Snowflake).
• Experience in migrating ETL processes from relational warehouse databases to AWS based solutions.
• Knowledge and experience using query languages for relational databases.
