About the position

Huntsman Corporation is seeking a talented Application Engineer to join our Advanced Materials Division, focusing on adhesive and composite qualifications for aerospace applications. This position can be located at our Huntsman Advanced Technology Center (HATC) in The Woodlands, TX, Los Angeles, or Seattle. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful implementation and qualification of adhesive bonding and composite materials in accordance with industry standards. You will have the opportunity to tackle the top challenges in the industry and collaborate directly with some of the largest aircraft companies globally, using your expertise to advance areas such as aircraft composite construction, aircraft interiors, and EVTOL utilizing Huntsman products and technologies. In this role, you will drive the advancement and implementation of cutting-edge adhesive and composite solutions by working closely with aircraft Material and Process Engineers. You will collaborate cross-functionally to ensure successful integration of material solutions, working with diverse teams, including design engineers, materials engineers, and manufacturing personnel, to seamlessly integrate adhesive bonding and composite materials into aerospace applications. Your responsibilities will include obtaining qualifications with aerospace OEMs and major Tier 1 suppliers for Huntsman adhesive and composite materials, negotiating product specifications with customers, and identifying opportunities for enhancement in adhesive and composite applications, processes, and materials. You will coordinate thorough analysis and testing of adhesive bonding and composite materials to ensure compliance with industry standards, develop and maintain comprehensive documentation pertaining to adhesive and composite qualifications, and conduct technical discussions and training sessions on adhesive and composite qualifications to enrich the knowledge and capabilities of the team, as well as customers, distributors, and field sales personnel. Keeping abreast of the latest developments in aerospace adhesive bonding and composite materials through continuous learning and engagement with industry publications and conferences will also be a key part of your role. Additionally, you will provide valuable inputs on customer and market requirements to the Innovation Team to ensure that next-generation products surpass customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the advancement and implementation of cutting-edge adhesive and composite solutions by working closely with aircraft Material and Process Engineers.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure successful integration of material solutions.
  • Work with diverse teams, including design engineers, materials engineers, and manufacturing personnel, to seamlessly integrate adhesive bonding and composite materials into aerospace applications.
  • Obtain qualifications with aerospace OEMs and major Tier 1 suppliers for Huntsman adhesive and composite materials.
  • Negotiate product specifications with customers as needed to align Huntsman capabilities with customer expectations.
  • Identify opportunities for enhancement in adhesive and composite applications, processes, and materials, providing recommendations for improved performance and efficiency.
  • Coordinate thorough analysis and testing of adhesive bonding and composite materials to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation pertaining to adhesive and composite qualifications, including reports and technical specifications.
  • Conduct technical discussions and training sessions on adhesive and composite qualifications to enrich the knowledge and capabilities of the team, as well as customers, distributors, and field sales personnel.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in aerospace adhesive bonding and composite materials through continuous learning and engagement with industry publications and conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a specification-driven industry, working with OEMs or Major Tier 1 suppliers.
  • Strong customer-facing skills to attain qualifications, capture the voice of the customer, and facilitate integration of next-generation technology.
  • Preferred experience in aircraft materials and processes (adhesives and composites).
  • Proficiency in adhesive bonding and composite materials in aerospace applications is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and specifications such as Boeing, Airbus, ASTM, AMS, IATF, or MIL-STD.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex technical issues to provide innovative solutions.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work seamlessly with cross-functional teams and convey technical information clearly to all stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and regulations related to adhesive bonding and composite materials in aerospace applications.
  • Willingness to travel domestically to Seattle, Los Angeles, and Texas, with potential international travel to Europe as needed (anticipated travel of 25-40%).
